KVY STINGRAYS SWIM TEAM
Who are the Stingrays? .gif)
They are a competitive age-group swim team run by the Kennebec Valley YMCA. Our members are ages 6-19 and they participate in both the YMCA and USA Swimming Leagues. We are looking for new members that include those who are experienced competitive swimmers as well as those new to the sport! Come check us out!
Kennebec Valley YMCA Stingrays Swim Team Mission Statement:
The Stingrays' mission is to guide every swimmer in reaching their full potential, and to help them build strong minds and bodies through high quality instruction and competition; and to promote a spirit of mutual respect, caring and responsibility.
Pre-requisites: Swimmers should be able to comfortably swim 25 yards each of front crawl and back crawl, or have coach's permission to participate.
Practice Groups & Schedule: Swimmers will be assigned to the proper group by the coaching staff. Summer team begins May 17, 2010. New members will be accepted throughout the season. MINIS: Pre-Team
Minis is a pre-swim team program for children 5-7 who excel in lessons, but are not quite ready for a serious competitive program. Swimmers will learn and improve on the four competitive strokes, as well as learn diving, starts, and flip turns. In addition to Minis practice, participants are required to take a regular swim lesson. Swimmers are required to attend all Stingrays home meets and are invited to all away meets.
Practices: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 5:00-6:00 PM
BLUE:Beginners
Swimmers in the blue group are recommended to attend at least 2 practices during the week. Swimmers will focus on drills and games to learn the basics of competitive swimming, as well as swim training sets. Swimmers will also be taught starts and turns, and discussions about nutrition, and sportsmanship will be highlighted.
Practices: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 5:00 - 6:00 PM
BRONZE: Intermediate
Swimmers are recommended to attend at least 3 practices during the week. Swimmers will focus on drill techniques to improve their swimming, starts, turns, and swim training sets. Swimmers will be introduced to dry land training, stretching, nutrition, sportsmanship and team spirit.
Practices: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 5:00 – 6:00 PM
SILVER: Advanced
Swimmers are recommended to attend at least 3 - 4 practices during the week. Swimmers will focus on drill techniques, starts, turns, training sets, stretching, nutrition, sportsmanship, team spirit and dry land training.
Practices: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 3:00 - 5:00pm also Monday-Friday 6:30 - 8:00am (June 15th through August 6th only)
GOLD:Most Advanced
Swimmers are recommended to attend at least 4 - 5 practices during the week. Swimmers will focus on drill techniques, starts, turns, training sets, stretching, nutrition, sportsmanship, team spirit, and dry land training.
Practices: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 3:00 – 5:00 PM also Monday-Friday 6:30 - 8:00am (June 15th through August 6th only)
Season
September 14, 2009 - March 19, 2010 Dual/Invitational/Championship YMCA League Meets Optional participation in USA (Maine Swimming) Meets
Summer Season 2010: May - August; registration starts April 5.
Please note: registration for the 2010/2011 regular season will also begin in April, 2010. (That season will start in late September 2010 and run through March 2011).
Fees: The following fees are required for participation:
YMCA Annual Membership: Youth $132, Teens $180 (year-long or annual is required by YMCA of the USA) Swim Team Registration Fees: Minis $75 Blues $225 Bronze $275 Silver $300; High School $250 Gold $325; High School $275
Escrow account (used for meet entry fees, team suit, cap, T-shirt, Spirit Night) $50 per swimmer; if purchasing a team suit please add: $50 female youth (22-28); $52 female adult (30-40); $35 male youth (22-28); $36 male adult (30-38).
Optional USA Swimming membership is $55 and is valid until Dec. 31, 2010.
The KV YMCA reserves the right to increase fees during the swim team season in order to cover unanticipated overhead costs.
