Fundraising For A Better US

The Kennebec Valley YMCA Brings “Us” Together

Strong Kids Annual Campaign provides funding for programs and services that helps strengthen community bonds and instills a sense of togetherness for all.

In a time where communities are more divided than ever, the Kennebec Valley YMCA (KV YMCA) is a key resource to bridge gaps, bring people together and strengthen relationships among “Us,” including the youth, adults and seniors who contribute daily to the betterment of our community. Through the Strong Kids Annual Campaign, the KV YMCA has been successful in achieving this goal.

The Y understands the importance of learning from one another and helping all of us to reach our fullest potential. Here in the Kennebec Valley community, the KV YMCA aims to bring all together with one common ground through providing affordable access to Y programs and services that will make lasting personal and social change.

The KV YMCA is committed to helping families of the Kennebec Valley community who would otherwise be unable to use the Y due to financial hardship.

Annually, through the Strong Kids Annual Campaign, the KV YMCA awards scholarships that provide more than 1,000 community members an opportunity to enjoy the facilities, participate in programs and activities while growing in spirit, mind and body. In 2022, with the Generous support of donors  and fundraising efforts of dedicated campaign volunteers the KVYMCA raised more than $200,000 to provide scholarships that allow youth and teens the opportunity to participate in programs such as summer camp. child care, swim team, swim lesions and enrichment programs.

As the need for scholarships increases, so does our goal. We have raised our 2023 Strong Kids Campaign goal to $260,000. For more information about the KV YMCA or the Strong Kids Annual Campaign, please contact Ranae L'Italian, Chief Executive Officer, at 207-622-9622 or ranae@kvymca.org.

Our reasons "Y"

"Camp KV is a life saver! They have always helped me when I am financially struggling and there is absolutely nowhere I'd rather my kids go. The staff and directors are great with the kids and easy to talk to about any concerns a parent might have. I look around at other daycares and they have the same price but are all indoors! I'm happy my kids are able to enjoy being outdoors every day at Camp KV during the summer rather than being inside like at the other daycares. They offer so many fun activities every day including swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, and plenty of sports and team-building activities. I know it's a time in my children's lives that they will never forget. I am happy the YMCA is so helpful with the scholarship program and we can give my kids a chance to make memories that last a lifetime." - Kelcie Lucas

"Our daughter was granted some help with the Open Doors Scholarship so she could attend Camp KV this summer. She came home everyday with a smile on her face and stories of all the new friends she'd made and the amazing love she had for her counselors. Our daughter loved and cherished every day she was at camp and cannot wait to go back next summer. " - Brian Smith

"My daughter Adrien greatly benefited from the OD scholarship this past year. When I would pick her up at the end of the day, she was always excited and would tell me about a new adventure, a new friend, or a new game she played. She made some really great connections with other kids from surrounding communities. Those connections developed into new, inspiring friendships that continue to flourish. She had so much fun laughing and playing at camp. Even time spent on the bus was an opportunity for joy. She would often tell me about the different songs they would sing (and other silliness!) while riding to and from camp. She enjoyed the counselors and was able to create trusting, compassionate relationships with them, and received support when she needed it.

Our family is truly grateful for the OD scholarship, and thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a kind and generous community!" - Jon W.
