KV YMCA Code of Conduct, Youth Use of Facility, Core Values

CODE OF CONDUCT

Members and program participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make YMCA programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be in effect for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary.

  • Show respect to all participants and staff
  • Refrain from using foul language
  • Refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants and staff
  • Show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities

The Kennebec Valley YMCA reserves the right to revoke membership privileges. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit.

CELL PHONE USAGE IN THE FACILITY
We have provided the opportunity for cell phone use in our lobby area only. There is no cell phone usage in any other areas of our facilities.

YOUTH USE OF FACILITY

There are some age restrictions regarding youth usage of the YMCA facility.

Youth ages 12 and under are only allowed in the YMCA when accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other adult 18 or over, or when enrolled in a YMCA structured program.

Youth 13 - 14 years of age are allowed in the building, without adult supervision. For use of the Fitness Center and Aquatic's Area please read the restrictions below.

Fitness Centers:

If you are age 10 or younger, you may not be in the Fitness Center. If you are age 11-13, you may use only the Cardio Equipment in the Fitness Center only under parental supervision (arm’s length away). If you are age 14 or older, you may use equipment on your own only after you complete a fitness orientation by a YMCA staff member.

Aquatics area:

Any child under the age of 10, or any non-swimmer, must be within arms’ reach of an adult in the water. Non-swimmers must stay in the shallow end; a swim test is required for use of the deep end. Lifeguards may administer a swim test at any time if they feel it is necessary. Lap swimming in the Competition Pool is open to ages 14 and up.

Sauna:

Members 18 years of age and older may use the Sauna.

Gym/Racquetball Court:

Children ages 11 and up may participate in “Open Gym” activities without adult supervision. Children ages 13 and up who are full KV YMCA members may reserve and use the racquetball court. Equipment may be signed out at the Membership Services Desk. Upon sign out, the staff will need to collect a personal belonging from the member as collateral for equipment being utilized.

Group Exercise Classes:

Children ages 11-12 may participate in group exercise classes when accompanied by an adult; ages 13 and up may participate in these classes on their own.

YMCA CORE VALUES

These are to be demonstrated in all areas of our facilities.

BE RESPONSIBLE:

  • This is YOUR YMCA, take care of it!
  • Clean up your own mess
  • Be aware of your own belongings

BE CARING:

  • Practice good sportsmanship
  • No cursing, taunting, arguing or fighting
  • Use the "rules of the road" in the YMCA hallways

SHOW RESPECT:

  • No inappropriate touching of others
  • No pushing, slapping, etc.
  • Respect staff

BE HONEST:

  • Follow YMCA rules
  • No dunking!
  • Leave bad attitudes at the door
